Waiting for the elevator to California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

LIKED  (we dined and toured here but did not stay the night)

We really loved the modern sleek feel of the lobby and certain areas of this resort.  The swanky restaurant ‘California Grill’ is inside the Contemporary Resort on the 15th floor and a must do on your vacation. The sushi was great, and views of Magic Kingdom and the lake are spectacular.  We were able to watch the Wishes fireworks show from the observation tower right after we were seated.   This hotel is in walking distance to Magic Kingdom, and the closest of all the hotels.  The monorail runs right through the inside of the hotel, which is a pretty cool sight to see.   Chef Mickey’s is a very popular character buffet inside this hotel with the monorail view, but it’s probably the most awful food in all of Disney World so it could fall in my dislike column too.

DISLIKED

When I researched Disney hotels, this one was last on my list from the pictures.  Nothing about it appealed to me visually, except the location.  The hotel looks like an office building,  and lacks the Disney magic theming of the other hotels.  The exterior is so unattractive that it’s hard for me to understand how they get such high premiums for the nightly rate, despite the close location.   It made me feel a little depressed walking around the hallways,  as it reminded me of a hospital.  I also noticed that like the Polynesian, the carpets needed to be vacuumed and shampooed in the lobby more frequently.
